Pre-sale ticket questions?

I want to get pre-sale tickets for a certain concert. How does this work? do you basically have the rights to any seat (including the front) in the arena early? or is there a certain section in the back for presale?

I've also heard waiting is less stressful and you get better seats.... how is that possible? HELP!?
