I've never used this sort of software before, so please forgive me if this is obvious information. Thank you for taking the time to respond

1) Can this be used with a controller? (Controller supports remapping and macros if that makes any difference)
2) What, if any, limitations are there in using this with a controller?
3) Will this make my anti-virus angry? (bitdefender)

Yes if you can trigger regular keys with controller buttons. (Something like rewasd)
You can't map controller buttons directly.
You will need to add AV exclusions.
